Roller Shutters

STEEL ROLLER SHUTTERS

Steel roller shutters are typically used in industrial and commercial buildings where security against entry or weather is required.  They are designed for strength and durability and can be engineered with a range of flexibility to suit most situations.  Added to this, there are various options available to suit your individual requirements.A steel roller shutter consists of support brackets, an independent roller drum, a curtain assembly of horizontal interlocking hinged steel slats with a stiffening bottom edge and vertical side guide tracks.  These doors are designed for behind wall mount although they can be fitted in reverse on the outside of the wall.

BENEFITS

Design flexibility – These doors are custom designed and made to suit your individual requirements.Space Saving – When the door is open, it is up and out of the way leaving a clear opening  without interference to surrounding walls or roof area.Rugged Construction – Designed to meet the requirements of an industrial environment, these doors are well recognised for their durability and economic maintenance costs.Size - Available from 1-metre square up to 14-Metres wide and 15-Metres high with a maximum total area of 112 square metres, there are not many wall openings that these doors cannot secure.  They can also be optioned with removable guide tracks to give an unlimited opening width.

USAGE

Standard roller shutters are typically designed for a productive life of 10,000 cycles.  If they are used twice a day as in a typical factory or warehouse situation they should last around 15 years.Doors required for higher usage can be upgraded to suit the need right up to 100% duty cycle.  It is important that your usage requirements are conveyed prior to requesting information or pricing.

OPERATION

Choose between motors, chain, hand-crank or push-up designs based on size, weight or frequency of operation.  A motorized shutter is designed to operate at around 30-cm per second so a 3-metre high door will take around 10-seconds to open or close.

CONTROLS

Electrically operated shutters can be controlled in many ways including up/down/stop push buttons, key switch controls, radio remote handsets, loop detectors, proximity readers, key pads, infrared motion sensors, timer controls and so on.  Doors with an automatic close function must be fitted with a safety devise such as photoelectric beam cells or pressure sensitive bottom edges.

FINISHES

The curtain slats and usually the side guide tracks are roll formed from galvanised sheet metal.  These can be left uncoated or powdercoated in a wide range of colours for further protection from the elements and to tie in your aesthetic requirements. The brackets and roller drum are typically primer painted in a zinc rich undercoat.  Keep in mind that doors in a corrosive environment may need special protection.

VENTILATION AND VISION

Slotting and perforations are available as an option in individual slats so that varying amounts of airflow and light access up to around 50-percent can be achieved.Slotting is where rectangular holes are punched into the face of the slat at regular spacing.Perforations are multiple 2mm diameter holes punched into the face of the slat.

WIND PRESSURE

Roller shutters can be designed to withstand virtually any wind pressure requirements.  Be sure to convey these requirements also.

WEATHER SEALS

Weather seals are an option on roller shutters.

TAPERED BOTTOM

The bottom edge of the door can be tapered in a straight line to match a sloping floor or sill.  Keep in mind that the lower part of the taper will hang into the opening when the door is open unless the head room is sufficient to hide the rolled up door and the taper.

SAFETY BOTTOM

An optional 100mm high yellow safety edge of tough flexible reinforced PVC can be added to the bottom rail to increase awareness of the height of the door when driving lifting vehicles or trucks through the opening.

PERSONNEL DOOR

These doors are useful and in some instances required by law when there is no other access into the room other than through the roller shutter.  In most cases a hinged door, also known as a Wicket Gate, DLI or Fire Exit door can be fitted within the roller shutter curtain.  I Deal Doors have designed these doors so they do not interfere with the operation of the roller shutter to reduce unnecessary door damage due to operator error.  When required they are made to meet fire exit requirements.

LOCKING

Commonly steel roller shutters have no locking other than the weight of the door in the side guides however manually operated doors can be fitted with a range of security options including slide bolts for padlocks and bottom rail hasp type locks.A Patented solenoid lock is currently under development to secure all types of overhead door.  Please enquire using the free call button below if this is of interest.

REMOVABLE MULLIONS

This option is handy when wide clear openings are required.

SIDE GUIDE TRACKS

The size and type of the side guides are determined according to the size and environment of the door.  Ranging from 25mm to 100mm deep, they take into consideration wind loading and security requirements.

HEAD PANEL

When a door is mounted where there is no door head, a matching head panel can be supplied to hide the roller from outside and close off unwanted gaps.

DOOR JAMBS

Galvanised steel door jambs can be designed and fitted when required.  Flashings can also be supplied to tidy up any gaps and improve the finished appearance of the doorway.
